I recently undertook a project in a local primary school along with other Postgrad students at Trinity. Our objective was to compose and perform a series of short pieces based on various chapters of E. Nesbit’s ‘Five Children and It’. The group I was co-leading created a piece called ‘Wings’ based on the chapter where the children wish to have wings.
We provided a structure for the children to work around which were the following three sections: ain and making the wish, starting to fly, and landing on the church roof. We also joined in with the composition but the majority of the musical content of the three sections was purely the children engaging creatively with the task with a little input from us.
